Our Social Action projects have included collecting clothing and other items for teen-age boys at Mount St. John's School in Deep River and children's books, mittens and school items for the West Middle School in Hartford. In the spring we have a book collection for the women of the York Correctional Facility. Proceeds from the sale of Purim baskets send local children to day camp and defray the cost of sending some of our own children to Jewish camps.

Sunday, May 1st: Award-winning documentary at CBSRZ
The Social Action Committee will be sponsoring the movie "The Billboard from Bethlehem" on May 1st in the social hall.
This is an award winning one-hour documentary by billboard developer turned peace maker, writer and developer Bruce Barrett. It stars The Combatants for Peace, who are a coalition of former Israeli Defense Force Fighters and Palestinian Resistance Fighters, committed to non-violent action and an end to the forty year occupation of the West Bank.
The film tells the story of an American billboard company owner who convinces Israeli and Palestinian fighters to recruit Israeli and Palestinian children to pain a giant peace mural billboard in the West Bank. The completed sign then travels to a mosque, a synagogue and a church before being posted on a busy American highway (you may have seen it on Route 95). The film offers insight into the history of conflict, the dynamics of the fighting and a vision for a just and lasting peace.
The film has played in Israel and has been screened by many churches and other organizations that push for peace.
We hope you will plan to attend.
